New Edge-Wound Chokes

By: j-lasslop

The new edge-wound chokes from Johann Lasslop bring together several benefits at once: they are smaller, lighter, and more cost-efficient and have lower power loss.

The new winding technique used with flat copper sidewise winding

enables optimum exploitation of the winding space, along

with a single-layer winding arrangement and

very compact design.

The benefits of this are:

  • considerable reductions in direct current resistance due to large wire profiles

  • Reduced losses due to the proximity effect resulting from the conductor being positioned in line with the field pattern

  • Low winding capacity due to the single-layer winding arrangement ? this contributes to a high resonant frequency

Along with this almost ideal winding arrangement, the use of new magnetically soft materials results in some drastic reductions in core losses.

Applications for these chokes are, for example, in high current power supply units of compact design.
